Areas we cover

We cover all of Central Scotland including Edinburgh, Glasgow, West Lothian and beyond.

Poor water quality is the no.1 cause of central heating system breakdowns.

Dirty water and sludge from rust build-up in your heating system causes serious damage. It clogs the boiler’s narrow waterways, damaging the pump and heat exchanger – resulting in boiler breakdown.

Sludge also collects in the pipework and at the bottom of radiators causing cold spots, inefficient heat dispersion and clanging noises as the system fires up.

Overall, a dirty sluggish heating system consumes more gas and costs even more money to run.

Power-flushing is the most effective method of cleaning and maintaining a central heating system. A power-flushing unit sends water at high velocity through the system to dislodge and remove debris and black iron-oxide sludge build-up. A thorough power-flush will improve heat distribution throughout the property, subsequently lowering household energy bills and increasing system reliability.

Power-flushing tackles the whole system – flushing out scale, sludge and rust that is lodged at the bottom of radiators and pipework – restoring the central heating system to its optimum condition.

Sludge build up inside pipe-work

This is how sludge forms inside heating pipes, narrowing the diameter and restricting flow until a complete blockage occurs.

Magnatite black iron oxide sludge

Sludge sticks to magnetic filters as it is iron rust particles from iron the inside of radiators. Having a magnetic filter will collect future corrosion.

HEATING PUMPS & COMPONENTS

Central heating pumps and other components on your heating system clog up and will eventually fail due to sludge build up.

HOT WATER PROBLEMS

Hot water plate heat exchangers struggle to transfer heat when dirty and have small waterways which will completely block up.

  • Q: How long does a powerflush take with Powerflush Scotland?
A: The time required to complete a Powerflush with Powerflush Scotland usually ranges between 5 to 8 hours. This duration can vary based on factors such as the size of your heating system, the number of radiators, the level of sludge and debris buildup, and the overall condition of your system. At Powerflush Scotland, we ensure that each Powerflush is thorough, effectively removing all contaminants to restore optimal efficiency. Our experienced technicians utilize state-of-the-art equipment to provide a comprehensive service, ensuring that your heating system operates smoothly and efficiently. We always allow a full day for our Powerflush service although, it may be completed in less time.
  • Q: My Boiler cover plan has told me I need a Powerflush, will yours be acceptable?
A: Absolutely, our Powerflush service comes with an approved water cleanliness certificate with water sample readings. We are also Gas Safe Registered Engineers which is required for opening and working on your boiler.
  • Q: What is a powerflush, and why should I consider it for my heating system?
A: A powerflush is a professional cleaning service designed to remove sludge, rust, and other debris that accumulate in your central heating system over time. At Powerflush Scotland, we use a high-velocity, low-pressure flushing unit, combined with specialized cleaning chemicals, to thoroughly cleanse your radiators, pipes, and boiler. This process helps to improve the efficiency and lifespan of your heating system by restoring optimal water flow and reducing the risk of breakdowns. Regular powerflushing ensures that your home heats up more quickly and evenly, reduces energy bills, and prevents cold spots in radiators. If you have an older heating system or have been experiencing issues like noisy boilers or inconsistent heating, a powerflush from Powerflush Scotland can revitalize your system and enhance overall performance.
  • Q: Can a Powerflush cause my heating system to leak?
A: No, we have been Powerflushing central heating systems for over 2 decades and have never had a leak caused by Power-flushing. Our Powerflush machine works at high velocity but low pressure, meaning there is no more pressure on your heating system than its normal working pressure. While the Powerflushing process itself is generally safe and straight forward, there is minor possibility that existing weaknesses in old radiators that are in an advanced stage of corrosion can be so badly rusted through that the cleaning process could remove the rust that is holding the leak back. For the radiator to be corroded this bad, it would be highly visible and noticeable on inspection before the Powerflush process commences. If this were to be the case, the radiator would be leaking in the near future even without any disturbance. We would always bring this to your attention before starting the Powerflush.
  • Q: I have underfloor heating, can it be powerflushed?
A: Yes, underfloor heating systems can indeed be powerflushed, and it is a crucial maintenance procedure to ensure optimal performance. At Powerflush Scotland, we specialize in powerflushing a variety of heating systems, including underfloor heating. Over time, sludge, rust, and debris can accumulate in the pipes, reducing efficiency and causing uneven heat distribution. Our professional powerflushing service involves using high-velocity water, along with special chemicals, to thoroughly clean out all contaminants from your system. This not only improves the efficiency of your underfloor heating but also extends its lifespan and helps to prevent future issues. If you’re experiencing cold spots or reduced performance, a powerflush from Powerflush Scotland can restore your system to its peak condition.
  • Q: Do You have to be Gas Safe Registered to carry out a Powerflush?
A: While it is technically ok to carry out work on a heating system without being Gas Safe Registered, during a Powerflush where the casing has to be removed from a Gas boiler to gain access to the pump, filters or plate heat exchanger. It is necessary to be Gas Safe registered to do this and the appliance should be tested after the seals have been disturbed. Most gas boilers are room sealed and the components including the central heating pump are within the case of the boiler. We carry out a free gas safety check on every appliance we Power-flush.
